  • 29 June 2026: Our Master students successfully defended their Master Thesis. Congratulations Laura and Yousra!

  • 30 April 2026: Wim Versées is awarded the Franz Bingen Prize from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

  • 3 November 2025: Ella Martin successfully defended here PhD. Congratulations Dr. Martin!

  • 30 October 2025: We are delighted to announce that Sadie Vermeiren has been selected by an international jury of Parkinson’s researchers as the recipient of the Demoucelle Parkinson Charity’s annual prize for the best masters thesis by a young Belgian scientist addressing any aspect of Parkinson’s disease – diagnosis, impact, care, treatment or cure.

  • 22 September 2025: Welcome to the new master students Yousra El Kadi and Laura Vander Heyden.

  • 27 August 2025: We are proud to present the long-awaited cryo-EM structure of the MnmE-MnmG protein complex, revealing new insights in its mechanism of tRNA modification. These results are now published in Nucleic Acids Research. 

  • 30 June 2025: Our Master students successfully defended their Master Thesis. Congratulations Ida, Louka and Sadie.

  • 27 May 2025: In a fantastic close collaboration with the groups of Prof. Nicoletta Plotegher and Prof. Elisa Greggio (University of Padova) we identified and characterized nanobodies that act as molecular chaperones to improve the function of the Parkinson's-associated protein glucocerebrosidase through a novel allosteric mechanism. These exciting results are now published in Nature Communications. 

  • 12 May 2025: Our paper describing the discovery and characterization of the first potent and selective inhibitor of Synaptojanin1 is now published online in ACS Pharmacology & Translational Science!

  • 6 April 2025: The Versées lab was awarded a research grant from the Funds Druwé-Eerdekens, Van Ael, Herman & Paula Meurisse et Jacqueline Cigrang, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, and the Vlaamse Parkinson Liga, to support fundamental research into the mechanisms of Parkinson's disease

  • 4 October 2024: Femke was awarded with a PhD fellowship from FWO Vlaanderen. Congrats!

  • 23 September 2024: Welcome to the new master students Sadie Vermeiren, Ida Van Gucht, Louka Denayer.

  • 2 July 2024: Our Master students successfully defended their Master Thesis. Congratulations Charlotte, Femke and Sien!

  • 19 June 2024: Christian was selected to give an oral presentation at the Biennial International LRRK2 Meeting in Crete. 

  • 15 May 2024: Thomas was selected to give an oral presentation at the EMBO Molecular Neurobiology Workshop. Ella also presented a poster at the same meeting.  

  • 26 April 2024: Our paper describing the cryo-EM structure of a bacterial LRRK2 homolog in the GTP-bound "active" state is now published in eLife. 

  • 01 March 2024: Babette Deckers successfully defended here PhD. Congratulations Dr. Deckers!

  • 25 September 2023: Welcome to the new master students Femke Van Mele, Sien Wittevrongel and Charlotte Popleu

  • 02 March 2023: Our article in Nucleic Acids Research, describing the interaction between the bacterial persistence-related proteins ObgE and YbiB, is now online. Go and check it out!!

  • 23 February 2023: Very proud to have collaborated in a study from the Verstreken group describing how the Parkinson’s disease risk factor EndophilinA /SH3GL2 regulates activity-induced autophagy at synapses, which was published in Neuron. 

  • 15 February 2023: Israel Mares joined our team as a postdoctoral researcher. Welcome Isra!

  • 16 January 2023: Proud to present our manuscript in Nature Communications on deep mutational scanning as a means to aid drug discovery!
